The 2006 edition of the Portage Printing Calendar features original artwork by Portage Central High School students. There are views of local landmarks like the Air Zoo, Library, and Celery Flats as well as local parks, lakes and golf courses.
We asked Dee Fitzsimmons, the Art Instructor at Portage Central High School, if she would be willing to ask her students to create color artwork that represented Portage in some way. We hoped the scenes would reflect different seasons, suitable for a calendar. A few weeks later, they presented us with at least two dozen beautiful pictures. Although only twelve are featured here, we ended up using ALL of them in the printed calendar.
This is the first calendar we have ever printed in full color on every page. For the past nineteen years, at least half of our calendar was done in only one or two colors. The art looks so great we think that this year’s will disappear even faster than usual.
As always, the 2006 calendar will be available free while supplies last (one to a customer) at Portage Printing, located at 1116 W Centre. The PCHS art department is also selling them for a small charge to raise money for art supplies. The originals will be displayed at the Portage District Library beginning in December.
